🗣️ 1-to-1 speaking lessons with Teacher Teddy
Choose a film. Choose your level. Let’s talk about it.
Online English speaking lessons built around the film you pick and the English you actually need — any level from A2 to C2. You do most of the talking. I listen, correct, and push you further than you’d go on your own.
If you can talk about a movie, you can talk about anything.
Passive listening doesn’t move your English forward. Forming an opinion and saying it out loud does. A film gives you something real to have an opinion about — so every lesson is a conversation you actually want to have, at a level you can actually manage.
You choose the film
Any film you’ve seen and want to talk about — one from the channel or one I’ve never reviewed. Comedy, thriller, animation, a film from your own country. If it’s something you have opinions about, it works.
You choose the level — A2 to C2
The same film makes a very different lesson at A2 and at C1. Tell me your level, or your best guess, and I’ll pitch the vocabulary, the questions and the pace to it. Not sure? The trial lesson will tell us.
The lesson is built for you
Before we meet I write a lesson for you specifically: your goal, one target learning objective, the scenes worth arguing about, and the phrases you’ll need to do it. No two learners get the same lesson.
How a lesson works
Fifty minutes, mostly you talking
Tell me the film and your goal
Use the form below. The film, your level, and what you want — confidence, an exam, work English, sounding more natural. Two minutes.
I build your lesson
One target objective for the session, the moments in the film we’ll talk about, and the vocabulary and phrases at your level to talk about them with. You get the plan before we start.
We talk
You review the film — what worked, what didn’t, what you’d have done. I keep you talking, correct what matters in the moment, and save the rest for the notes.
You leave with your review, and the notes
Every correction, every phrase you reached for and didn’t have, and one small thing to practise before next time — so the next lesson builds on this one instead of starting again.
Prices
Start with a trial. Decide after.

Any level
What the same film looks like at your level
Choose your own — or say “not sure” on the form and we’ll work it out in the trial.
Who the characters are, what happened, what you liked. Short answers, lots of support, no pressure.
Telling the story in order, saying why a scene worked, agreeing and disagreeing politely.
A real review: the argument, the evidence, the “but”. Idioms and phrases native speakers actually use.
Nuance, tone, register — defending an unpopular opinion, reading a film against what critics said.
The last five percent: precision, rhythm, humour, the words you know but never use out loud.

Group classes — coming
Talk about a film with four or five other learners
Small groups, one level, one film a week, an hour of real discussion led by me. Cheaper than a 1-to-1 and — for a lot of people — more fun. I’ll open the first groups once there are enough of you at the same level. Join the list and you’ll hear first, with the price and the times, before anyone else.

Who you’ll be talking to
The same Teddy as the videos
I’m a working English teacher, and I’ve built every episode on this site.
TEFL-certified, a native speaker with a British master’s degree, teaching English since 2020 — first in classrooms, now through the daily reviews you may already know. The lessons here are the same method, live: you pick the film, you form the opinion, you say it, and I make sure you have the English to say it well. I write, record and edit every episode myself, and I’ll build your lesson myself too.
Do I have to watch the film before the lesson?
Yes — that’s the whole point. Watch it before we meet, with subtitles in any language you like. The fresher it is, the more you’ll have to say.
Can I pick a film that isn’t on the channel?
Absolutely. Any film you can watch legally. If I haven’t seen it, I’ll watch it before I build your lesson.
My English is only A2. Is this too hard?
No. At A2 the lesson is short answers with lots of support — who’s in it, what happened, what you liked. You’ll talk more than you expect.
Will you correct my mistakes?
Lightly in the moment, so you keep talking. Fully in the notes afterwards, so nothing gets lost.
What do I need?
A laptop or phone, a quiet half hour, and a free Discord account. Lessons happen on the EngMovieReviews Discord server — I’ll send the invite when we agree a time, and it works in the browser with nothing to install.
What if I need to cancel?
Move or cancel with 24 hours’ notice at no charge. Less than that and the lesson is used, unless it’s a real emergency — talk to me.
Do you do exam preparation?
Yes — IELTS, Cambridge and TOEFL speaking parts especially. Say so on the form and I’ll build the lesson around the exam’s speaking tasks, still using your film.
Not ready for a lesson yet?
The daily episodes are free, and every one ends with a question you can answer in the comments. Start there.
